What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing exercise?

In our society, exercise is currently considered a topic of importance to people of all ages. However, doing regular exercise has both advantages and disadvantages. While experts agree on the benefits of daily activity, others hardly ever pay attention to this controversial issue.

Firstly, doing exercise clearly improves your physical well-being. Not only does it make you to lose weight, it also helps you to keep fit and reduces the risk of several serious illness, such as diabetes and heart disease. In addition, it relaxes you, often burning adrenaline and allowing you to get a better night’s sleep. Another point to add is that regular exercise makes you look better and increases your muscle mass. It is also thought to provide a good option to a healthy social life, particularly for teenagers, who spend time and dedication practising team sports, such as hockey and basketball, instead of just hanging out in city centres.

Nevertheless, exercising also has some drawbacksThe most important ones are that it takes up time, young people may spend from 6 -10 hours a week training and taking part in matches. It can also be costly, as you need to pay for classes, expensive equipment and transport to and from training and matches. Another disadvantage is that young people may suffer serious injuries while exercising, which interfere with their daily lives.

To sum up, I would say that exercising clearly has many advantages and is definitely worth doing, because of the health benefits it has. However, it is important to choose what type of exercise you do, so that it does not take up too much of your free time.

1 There is no doubt that the subject of keeping animals in zoos creates a lot of debate. Some people say zoos are traditional family entertainment and good for animals. Others say keeping animals in zoos is cruel and inhumane.

2 One advantage of zoos is that they give people the chance to see and learn about animals. This makes people more likely to want to look after animals and protect their natural habitats. Another 3 positive aspect of zoos is that they help to protect endangered species by offering them a safe place to live.

4 In addition zoos help to find mates for endangered species. For example, many pandas would not find a mate to breed with if they were on their own in the wild.

5 On the other hand, there are many arguments against keeping animals in zoos. Firstly, zoo animals often suffer from stress and boredom when they are not in their natural habitat. Secondly, unwanted animals are sometimes sold to circuses, hunting parks or for meat.

6 Another drawback is that animals sometimes escape from their enclosures, which is dangerous for humans.

7 To conclude, there are strong arguments for and against keeping animals in zoos. 8 Personally, I think it is acceptable to keep animals in zoos, as long as they have enough space and are properly looked after.

REPORTED SPEECH:

She said she would never leave her side, ("my love")
She said that standing right beside him was enough

She asked him to count on her if he felt any pain
and asked me to call him, he would run to him again

She said  he could count on her and she could count on him

She said he showed up like she showed up

And added that she would keep showing up for him

So she asked him to take her hands and not to be afraid
That too should pass, that too shall pass
She said that they would get through it all together

She swore he was safe
That too should pass, that too should pass
And they would get through it all together (…)

So she suggested loving each other

No to the Gas station next to our school

SIGN THE PETITION: CHANGE.ORG

The project calls for the construction of a gas station and convenience store, next to the IES Cantabria Secondary school. Normally, projects such as these provide for a public comment period so that residents and stakeholders can share their concerns and allow for community input to the City Commission, in order to properly address concerns. The concerns of parents arise from several different areas, including safety, health, environmental and traffic.

Safety concerns range from the sales of alcohol and tobacco products at the convenience store, to the accessibility the gas station.

Environmental and health concerns revolve around the impact a gas station has to air quality in close proximity to a school, ground water contamination and the increased risk in childhood cancer and respiratory issues in children who are in close proximity to a gas station, just to name a few.

When it comes to traffic, schools are usually plagued with traffic concerns at drop off and pick up times. IES Cantabria is not exempt from this. The gas station’s location directly next to the school will have traffic implications too.

CONS: Traffic, noise, air/ground pollution, side problems

Mobile phones at school

Nowadays more and more students bring their mobile phones to school. While I believe that students should carry mobile phones in case of an emergency, I am strongly opposed to phones being used at school, particularly in the classroom.

Firstly, many students travel to and from school without their parents. Therefore, it is important for them to have a mobile phone in case they need help or have an accident on the way to school or home.

Furthermore, parents who work may need to contact their children. For example, if a parent has to work late, the student has to be told if arrangements have been made for a relative or neighbour to look after them.

On the other hand, nothing is more disruptive during a lesson than the sound of a mobile phone ringing or playing an annoying tune. Moreover, students who send and receive text messages in class are not paying attention to the lesson.

In conclusion, I feel that students should be allowed to take mobile phones to school for use in an emergency. However, all phones should certainly be turned off during lessons.
